Film style icon: Holly Golightly

I’d like to start a series of posts about style icons from films. Watching films is one of my favourite pastimes, and I love being inspired by film fashion. I’ll start this series with the leading lady from one of my absolute favourite films; Holly Golightly (played by my favourite actress Audrey Hepburn) from Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961).

The most iconic Holly Golightly outfit is of course her little black dress paired with pearls, gloves, and big sun glasses. She made the LBD a wardrobe stable for most women, and I myself have been inspired by this look and worn a similar outfit at numerous costumes parties (here’s some pictures from the last time I dressed up as Miss Golightly).

One of my favourite Holly looks is this amazing all pink one. Even though we see Holly in a lot of neutral colours, she wears a couple of colourful outfits that are just stunning. This outfit speaks to me for several reasons, but the main reason why I love it is because of the colour (you probably know by now that I love pink).

Another colourful Holly Golighty outfit consists of this amazing orange coat paired with black and dark brown accessories. This look is very simple, but incredibly stylish.

Holly Golightly is not only inspiring when she’s all dressed up; this casual polo neck and black trousers combo is timeless.

The little black dress is not the only classic clothing item displayed in Breakfast at Tiffany’s; Holly Golightly rocked the beige trenchcoat as well. I used to wear my beige trenchcoat a lot, and now I really want to start wearing again.

First impressions: L’Oréal False Lash Superstar Red Carpet Black

DSC_2070

Last month I hauled some drugstore products including the L’Oréal False Lash Superstar Red Carpet Black mascara. I’ve been testing it, and here are my first impressions.

Step 1 + step 2

It’s a double-ended mascara with two steps. First, I applied step 1, which is a primer. It’s a white product, but it turns almost clear. It made my lashes look long and curled. After it had dried, I applied step 2; a regular black mascara. The mascara that got on to my eyelids during application was fairly easy to remove without ruining my eye shadow. The mascara looked nice, but I don’t think it was anything special. It transferred a bit to the top of my eyelids during the day, which seems to be a general problem for me (only few mascaras don’t transfer on me, e.g. my favourite Maybelline The Falsies). It held the curled very nicely (the primer might have something to do with that), and it was easy to remove with regular eye make-up remover. To be completely honest, I’m not the biggest fan of the mascara. I’ve tried ones that are much better.

5 favourites – May

By tomorrow it’ll officially be summer. Last week felt like summer in Denmark, but right now it’s windy and rainy outside. May was yet another busy month; the exam period started and I had a big choir concert last week. June will continue to be all about exams, but it is nice to know that this is my last exam period, because I’m going to write my master’s thesis next semester. Even though I’ve been busy this month, I still had a lot of favourites, and here’s five of them.

dsc_1422

Adidas Superstar 80s Primeknit sneakers: I bought these sneakers in a Black Friday sale last year, but because of the light knitted material and the cold Danish weather, I haven’t been able to wear until this spring. I’ve especially worn then a lot this past month, and I simply think they are awesome.

DSC_2557

Jeffree Star Skin Frost in Eclipse: You probably know by now how much I love the Jeffree Star Skin Frosts, and this limited edition shade made in collaboration with Manny MUA is gorgeous. If Ice Cold and Peach Goddess had a baby, Eclipse would be it.

DSC_2621

Homemade iced coffee: As I mentioned, I’m in the middle of the exam period, so I’ve been drinking a lot of coffee. In the beginning of the month, I decided to try to make my own iced coffee, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. It’s really easy to make (it’s just coffee, a bit of sugar, milk, and ice cubes) and it tastes so good.

riverdale

Riverdale (TV series): I know I’m a little late to the party when it comes to this Netflix Original series, but better late than never. I didn’t really know what to expect (I don’t know much about Archie Comics), but I was extremely pleasantly surprised. I love crime solving series and some high school/love drama. Actually, I enjoyed this series so much that I watched it twice this month. I can’t wait for season 2!

Amar pelos Dois – Salvador Sobral: I love the Eurovision Song Contest, and I’ve watched it every year since I was little. I don’t always like the winning song, but this year my absolute favourite won. This is one of the most beautiful and moving songs, I’ve ever listened to and my favourite Eurovision winner of all time. Even though I don’t understand a single word (it’s in Portuguese) and still feel every single word, and I’ve been listening to this song on repeat ever since it won the contest. Please, take a few minutes and listen to this song if you haven’t already.

Urban Decay Heavy Metal glitter eyeliner

DSC_2361

When you are doing your make-up for a night out, it’s nice to do a little extra, and glitter is a great way of doing that. The thing about loose glitter is that it goes everywhere, and as much as I love glitter, I don’t want it all over my face. I had seen several youtubers use the Urban Decay Heavy Metal glitter eyeliners on their eyelids, and it looked so quick and easy, so I decided to try it out. I bought the silver one which is called Glam Rock, and it works perfectly. I really want the rest of the colours now!

5 favourites – April

We are rapidly moving into the last month of spring, and I really wish the weather would get a lot warmer very soon. Anyways, April was another very busy month for me, and my exams start in May, so I have yet another busy month ahead of me. But let’s say goodbye to April by talking about some favourites.

solv-sneakers-missguided

Silver sneakers by Missguided: I’m so glad I bought these silver sneakers back in December. They add a little extra something to any outfit, and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten so many complements on a pair of shoes before.

Jeffree Star Beauty Killer eye shadow palette: Jeffree Star Cosmetics is one of my favourite make-up brands, and I finally bought the Beauty Killer palette a couple of months ago. The shadows are so pigmented, and I love the colours; I’ve actually worn more colourful eye looks this month partly because of this palette.

DSC_1519

Wet n Wild MegaGlo contouring palette in Dulce De Leche: This little highlight and contour duo is very handy. It’s great for travelling, and the powders are matte and very pigmented.

MONSTERS, INC. 3D

Monsters, Inc. (film): On the film front, my 2017 has been amazing so far. One of the best films, I’ve watched this past month, is Monsters, Inc. I’ve watched it once before, but that was years ago, so I didn’t remember much of it. It was so good though, but as the Disney lover that I am, I find it hard to dislike anything Disney.

glee

Glee (TV series): I’ve watched Glee before, but this month I just felt like rewatching it. So I watched the first two seasons and about half of the third season again, and I still love it. I was in my gymnasium’s (high school) choir, which I loved, but I wish it would have been more like glee club.

MAC Colour Rocker + lip pencil

DSC_2159DSC_2153

I’m always excited about lipsticks in fun and unusual colours, so obviously I had to get my hands of some of the MAC Colour Rocker lipsticks. I know they’re been out for a while, but I’m on my busiest semester so far, so I don’t have time to blog as regularly as I used to. I’ll try to blog as much as I can though. Anyways, back to lipsticks. I decided to buy three shades from the collection (even though I could have bought pretty much every shade); Show and Teal, Night Mint, and Cold Hard Cash. At the time I bought the lipsticks there was a deal on the webside where you would get 20 % off if the bought a lipstick and a lip pencil, so I saw that as an opportunity to buy the lip pencil in Stone as well. I’ll post looks with all of these lip products eventually, but I have a look wearing one of them coming up soon.

Bad nail habits

DSC_2292DSC_2293DSC_2291

I haven’t done a nail post in ages, and it’s because my nails were in a really bad condition for a long time, but a few weeks back they got a bit better (the pictures) and now they’re a bit bad again. By bad I mean that they break all the time. My nails are very fragile, and I think it might have something to do with the fact that I used to bite my nails; I started biting them in kindergarten and didn’t stop until I was 16. I still have the tendency to fiddle with my nails when they’re starting to break which doesn’t make it better. Do you know any good products for making your nails stronger?

5 favourites – March

I can’t believe that it’s already the last day of March. I had a very busy, but eventful month. I was especially busy with uni stuff, but I still spent a lot of time with both family and friends, and all in all March was a great month. The weather has slowly started to get a bit warmer which I really appreciate. I had a lot of favourites this month, so it was a bit difficult to pick just 5, but here they are.

sort-velour-bomber-jakke-cardigan-monki

Black velvet bomber cardigan: You have seen this velvet number quite a bit throughout the past couple of months, and you will definitely see more of it. I think I’ve worn it at least once a week during the past month, and it’s just one of my favourite clothing pieces at the moment. It’s so comfortable, and I’m just obsessed with velvet.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

Real Techniques Expert Face brush: I’m a huge fan of Real Techniques make-up brushes and this one was added to my collection in December. I didn’t use it though until this month when I got into contouring again, because this brush is great for blending out your contour.

Spinning hoops

Silver hoop earrings: I’ve had these earrings since I was 18 and I’ve always used them quite a bit, but this month they have been pretty much the only earrings I’ve worn. They go with everything, and they’re good medium sized hoops.

LLL d 29 _5194.NEF

La La Land (film): This year so far, I’ve watched so many amazing films, and in this month’s favourites I had to feature two of them. I had very high expectations to La La Land and I was not disappointed. I teared up so many times during this film, especially when all the amazing music was playing (the first thing I did when I got home from the movie theatre was to listen to the soundtrack on repeat). Through and through this film was just beautiful.

beautyandthebeast

Beauty and the Beast (film): Another film I was extremely excited about was Beauty and the Beast. As you probably already know, I’m a huge Disney fan, and Belle has always been my favourite Disney princess, and Emma Watson did an amazing job portraying her. I teared up whenever a song was playing, and just as La La Land, it was a beautiful film.

First impressions: Lancôme Hypnôse Drama

DSC_2246

I got this Lancôme Hypnôse Drama mascara sample in a Lancôme gift set on my gift advent calendar in December, and when I tried it out for the first time a few weeks ago, I wrote down my first impressions.

First impressions Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara

I has a large, slightly curvy bristle wand which I quite like. It gives my lashes both length and volume and I think it looks very nice. It was very easy to remove from my eyelids without ruining my eye shadow which is something I’m appreciating in a mascara, because I always get mascara on my eyelids and on my lower lash line during application. There was no transfer to the top part of my eyelids during the day which is great. Because it is quite a dry formula it did leave tiny specs of mascara on the skin around my eyes, but it was nothing major and it was very easy to remove. The mascara was also very easy to remove with regular eye make-up remover at the end of the day. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by this mascara. I didn’t expect much, because I hadn’t tried any Lancôme mascaras before, but I was quite impressed by it.

5 favourites – February

The last month of winter has (finally) come to an end. I’m tired of the cold, so I really can’t wait for spring weather to arrive. In February I was quite busy with uni stuff, but I managed to find time to see family and friends. March is going to be a busy month as well, but I kind of like be occupied. Anyways, let’s say goodbye to February by talking about some of my favourite things from the past month.

dsc_0783

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation (shade: 110 Porcelain): I did a first impressions post on this foundation back in october. Back then I wrote that I neither loved nor hated this foundation, but it has definitely grown on me. If you have dry skin, this is probably not the foundation for you, but is you have normal or oily skin, I would definitely recommend you try it out.

dsc_1757

Jeffree Star Skin Frost in Ice Cold: Last month my favourite highlighter was the Jeffree Star Skin Frost in Peach Goddess, this month it’s Ice Cold. The Jeffree Star Skin Frost highlighters are amazing, and in contrast to Peach Goddess which is a bit softer but still glowy, Ice Cold is very intense and I love it.

dsc_1637

Jeffree Star Velour liquid lipstick in Redrum: I rarely feature lip products in my favourites post, because I wear so many different shades throughout a month. But when I wear a certain lip product once a week for a month (or longer) I have to mention it. You might have noticed by now that I’m obsessed with the Jeffree Star Velour liquid lipsticks and my favourite shade is Redrum which is the perfect classic red.

img_1526

Casio watch: I had been wearing the same silver watch since I was 12 years old, so I thought it was about time to wish for a new one. I got this Casio watch for Christmas, and it has been a favourite since I got it, but I’ve worn it almost everyday in February, and I just love the nice and simple design.

9845eca33f7c30db570ee1e787cac492

The Shawshank Redemption (film): Just like in January I’ve watched so many great films this past month, but the one that takes the cake is this 1994 classic. This film has been on my ‘must watch’ list for years, and it was just as great as I’d hoped.
