First impressions: Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High mascara

It’s time for a first impressions post on the super popular Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High mascara. I wanted to see for myself if it is as good as everyone says.

The mascara has a very bendy, plastic wand with short bristles. I usually don’t prefer a plastic wand, but this one made it very easy to grap and coat every lash. It made my lashes look long but not too voluminous after the first coat, but when I applied the second coat I achieved a bit more volume, and I think my lashes looked great. I used a spoolie to remove the mascara marks I got on my eyelids and underneath my eyes, and it was not the easiest product to remove, but I made it work. After a few hours of wear I did see a little transfer to my browbones/top of my eyelids, but that is not uncommon to me and it really was minimal. I wore the mascara for just over 12 hours, and I didn’t see any further transfer or flaking throughout the day. I removed the mascara with regular eye make-up remover, and it was not the easiest mascara to remove. It takes a bit more work to get all the product off, but it’s not a deal breaker to me, because I really enjoy this mascara otherwise. I guess, I see why it went viral.

Hot Jalapeño

Here’s the make-up I wore with this outfit. Of all the e.l.f. Bite Size Eyeshadows I’ve tried so far, the Hot Jalapeño is definitely the most pigmented one (Truffles is a close second), and the colours are just stunning!

(Base: primer – Wet n Wild Prime Focus Primer Serum, foundation – Maybelline Dream Urban Cover foundation (shade: 100 Warm Ivory), concealers – L’Oréal Infaillible More Than Concealer (shade: 322 Ivory) + Maybelline Instant Anti Age Eraser concealer (shade: 00 Ivory), powders – Essence Brighten Up! Banana powder in 10 Bababanana + Rimmel Clear Complexion Clarifying powder in 021 Transparent. Face make-up: bronzer – Maybelline City Bronzer in 100 Light Cool, blusher – Milani baked powder blush in 05 Luminoso, highlighter – MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Lightscapade. Eye make-up: base – MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly, eyeshadows – Essence eyeshadow in 05 Granny Pants + e.l.f. Bite Size Eyeshadows in Hot Jalapeño (shades: all four) + MAC Nylon eyeshadow, mascaras – Essence Volume Booster lash primer + L’Oréal Air Volume Mega mascara, eyeliner – Jeffree Star Automatic eyeliner in Resting Rich Face. Eyebrows: Maybelline Brow Ultra Slim pencil in Medium Brown + e.l.f. Clear Brow & Lash Mascara. Lips: MAC Boldly Bare lip pencil + MAC Powderkiss lipstick in Mull It Over)

Mix of colours and prints

Here’s what I wore Wednesday February 3. I love the mix of colours and prints in this outfit. I wasn’t sure if the pastel coloured jumper would go with the darker/brighter coloured skirt, but I think the two pieces look great together.

(Necklace – second hand, jumper – Zara, skirt – Monki, boots – Topshop)

Truffles

Here’s the make-up I wore with this outfit. I’m wearing the e.l.f. Bite Size Eyeshadows in Truffles, and it’s such a sexy, mostly cool-toned neutral little quad. The quality of this one is great!

(Base: primer –  e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer, foundation – Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation (shade: 110 Porcelain), concealer – L’Oréal Infaillible More Than Concealer (shade: 322 Ivory), powders – Essence Brighten Up! Banana powder in 10 Bababanana + Rimmel Clear Complexion Clarifying powder in 021 Transparent. Face make-up: bronzer – Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r – Instant Warmth bronzer (shade: Inda Sun), blusher – Essence The Blush in 30 Breathtaking, highlighter – Revolution Precious Glamour Illuminator in Million Dollars. Eye make-up: base – MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly, eyeshadows – Essence eyeshadow in 05 Granny Pants + e.l.f. More hats

Here’s what I wore Tuesday February 2. For the past couple of years, I’ve mainly worn bucket hats and baker boy hats, and it wasn’t until I put this pork pie hat on my head that I found out how much I’ve missed wearing other types of hats, so be prepared to see more hats, and more types different hats, in the future.

(Hat + jeans – H&M, blazer – second hand, T-shirt – Daisy Street, boots – Raid)

Affordable make-up haul

I have a collective affordable make-up haul to share with you today. It contains a bit of everything.

Let’s start with base products. Well, the L’Oréal Shake & Glow luminous setting spray might not be a base product per se, but you apply it all over your face, so I guess it kind of falls under this category. I’ve used it a few times, and it has the finest mist. For concealers I bought a back up of my favourite concealer, the L’Oréal Infaillable More Then Concealer, and the L’Oréal True Match Eye-Cream In A Concealer (shade: 1-2D Ivory Beige). I’ll be posting a first impressions on this concealer at some point, so stay tuned for that. I also purchased the L’Oréal True Match Perfecting Powder in 2.N Vanilla, and the e.l.f. High Definition powder in Sheer, which I didn’t know that I already owned. Whoops.

Then I purchased a bunch of mascaras. I bought two back ups of the L’Oréal Lash Paradise mascara and one back up of the L’Oréal Air Volume Mega mascara; two of my favourite mascaras. Then I bought the very popular Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High mascara, which I’ll also do a first impressions post on, and lastly I purchased the L’Oréal Lash Paradise mascara primer.

Now, let’s move on to some Essence stuff. I’ve bought three lip liners; two of the Stay 8h lipliners (shades: 04 Naïve + 08 Passionate) and one of the Soft & Precise lip pencils in the shade Late Night. I also bought the eyeshadow in 14 Flirting, which is a great transition shade and the The Highlighter in the shade 01 Mesmerizing. I liked the Fire lipstick from the My Power Is collection so much that I decided to get the water and air lipsticks as well. They’re called 04 Dance With The Waves! and 01 Up In The Clouds!.

In my last make-up haul, I mentioned the Essence Shine, Shine, Shine lipglosses, and I really like them, so I purchased another shade. It’s a pretty, sparkly, purple shade called 15 Watch Me Do.

And now on to the last three products from Essence. I found this new limited edition collection at my local supermarket last week. It consists of two eyeshadow palettes and two highlighter palettes, but I only got one of the highlighter palettes, because the other one (called My Little Gold highlighter palette) was too dark for me. The highlighter palette I got is called My Little Platinum highlighter palette, and it contains three shades. The two eyeshadow palettes are called My Little Copper eyeshadow palette and My Little Coral eyeshadow palette, and they swatch so nicely. The packaging is really cute too, and I really like the crown designs in the pans.

And last, but not least, I purchased two products from The Balm. I know that The Balm isn’t a super affordable brand, but I got these for a good price, and I didn’t know which haul to put them in otherwise. The products that I got are the Balm Beach blush and the Balm Desert bronzer/blush, and I’m excited to try these.

Rainbow eyes

Here’s the make-up I wore with this outfit. I really wanted to do a rainbow eye look to match my jumper, so I had to do my eyeshadow differently than how I usually do my eyeshadow, but I really like how this look turned out, and it was fun to try a different technique.

(Base: primer –  e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer, foundation – Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation (shade: 110 Porcelain), concealer – L’Oréal Infaillible More Than Concealer (shade: 322 Ivory), powders – e.l.f. HD Undereye setting powder in Sheer + Jeffree Star Magic Star Setting Powder in Fair. Face make-up: bronzer – Milani Silky Matte Bronzing powder in Sun Light, blusher – Clinique Cheek Pop palette: Warm Up (shade: Nude Pop), highlighter – Catrice More Than Glow highlighter in 010 Ultimate Platinum Glaze. Eye make-up: base – MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly, eyeshadows – Jeffree Star Jawbreaker palette (shades: Virgin + Good Morning + Licorice + Suck + Wow + Sour + Gum Drop) + MAC Nylon eyeshadow, mascaras – Essence Volume Booster lash primer + Fenty Beauty Full Frontal – Volume, Lift & Curl mascara, eyeliner – MAC Studio Chromagraphic pencil in NC15/NW20. Eyebrows: Essence Make Me Brow eyebrow gel mascara in 02 Browny Brows + e.l.f. Clear Brow & Lash Mascara. Lips: Jeffree Star Velour liquid lipstick in Can’t Relate +  Essence Shine, Shine, Shine wet look lipgloss in 25 Volume, Please!)

Overalls and rainbows

Here’s what I wore Monday February 1. I really felt like wearing a pair of overalls, because I hadn’t worn a pair in so long, and I went with my purple corduroy ones and styled them with some rainbow goodness. A perfect comfy, colourful Monday outfit.

(Overalls – Monki, jumper – Boohoo, sneakers – Nike)
