5 favourites – January

The first month of 2019 is now over, and I can sum it up in two words: work and freezing. Yes, pretty much all I did this month was work (and get a lot of use out of a couple of my Christmas presents which is featured in this favourites post), and it’s been freezing cold outside in Denmark (it actually snowed quite a bit today). I only have six more work days and then I have a week off, so I’m really looking forward to that. But anyways, let’s talk about some favourites.

DSC_6420

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Androgyny eye shadow palette: It’s no secret that I love Jeffree Star Cosmetics, and even though this was Jeffree’s second palette release, I didn’t buy it until recently. I’m so glad I finally did though, because I love this palette. The colours are stunning, and the pigmentation is fantastic. I can’t wait to create more gorgeous eye looks with this palette.

Milani Strobe Light Instant Glow Powder (shade: Afterglow): I have another make-up favourite this month, and it’s this gorgeous highlighter. The shade is perfect, and the pigmentation is perfect. It has been my go-to highlighter the past couple of weeks, and I’ll definitely continue to use this.

natkingcole

A Portrait of Nat King Cole (album): I love Nat King Cole. He’s my favourite jazz musician/crooner. My favourite record is a Nat King Cole one, and this CD which I found at a second hand store between Christmas and New Year’s is also a favourite of mine. I’ve been listening to this CD on repeat this past month, and I’ll probably continue to do so.

thesims4seasons

The Sims 4 Seasons (computer game): I finally got this expansion pack (I got it for Christmas), so I’ve been playing The Sims 4 whenever I had the time. I’ve been playing The Sims games for the past 15 years or so, and I still absolutely love it.

chromecast

Google Chromecast: I don’t have any TV channels, so until this month I’ve been watching Netflix on my iPad, which is fine, but it’s nice to finally be able to watch TV series and films on a slightly bigger screen. I’ve also enjoyed watching YouTube videos on my TV though I still mostly watch those on my iPad (my iPad is my portable TV).

Collective H&M haul

I’ve done three separate H&M orders within the past few months, so I thought I would do one big haul, and show you what I’ve got.

blå flared jeans - h&m

I have only purchased one pair of trousers (the rest are tops and a pair of shoes), and they are these super flared, long, high waisted jeans. They give my very strong ’70s vibes, and I can’t wait to style these.

limegrøn cropped sweater - h&mblå, gul, grålilla og grøn stribet sweater - h&m

It’s really cold in Denmark these days, so I decided to add a couple more knitted jumpers to my collection. I love green, and I thought the lime green cropped cable knit would be fun to style. I purchased the stripy jumper last week, and I just loved the colours + you can never have to many stripes in my opinion.

orange sweatshirt m. skrift - h&m

I had this sweatshirt saved in my favourites for a while, but I wasn’t sure I liked the font of the writing. I decided to get anyways, because of the fact that it says ‘syntax error’ which is really funny to me, because I studied English at uni, and the syntax classes were some of my favourites.

brun, beige og sort leopardmønstret rullekravetrøje - h&m

I don’t own that much animal print, but I’m starting to get really into it. This roll neck top is the perfect layering piece; it fits perfectly and it just adds a little extra something to an outfit.

hvid t-shirt m. rød skrift - h&mrød velour t-shirt m. lynlås - h&m

I know I already have a lot of white graphic T-shirts, but this one says ‘shoes & spaghetti’ which are two things I love. The red velvet T-shirt is interesting, and I’m not quite sure how I feel about it yet, but I thought it would make a fun styling challenge.

sort mesh t-shirt m. stjerner - h&mpink lang mesh t-shirtkjole m. røde striber - h&m

I’ve also bought two mesh tops, which again are great layering pieces. The black one with stars is quite simple, but I thought it would look great on top of a camisol or roll neck top (for example the leopard print one). And the long pink mesh top/dress is another item I’m not quite sure how to style, so I have another styling challenge ahead of me, which I’m always excited about.

sorte satin platform sandaler - h&m

Lastly, I bought a pair of black disco heels (at least that’s what I call them). I have these shoes in a purple glitter version, and they are probably my most comfortable party shoes, so I’m excited about having the black version as well.

Ahoy!

Here’s what I wore Wednesday January 23. This outfit has some strong nautical vibes to it, and I love it! Red and navy will always be one of my favourite colour combos.

Berry

dsc_6840dsc_6832

Here’s the make-up I wore Tuesday January 22. I’m wearing the Wet n Wild Color Icon Rose in the Air eyeshadow palette, and I’m very impressed by the quality. I love the matte berry shade.

First impressions: Maybelline Superstay 24H Full Coverage Foundation

dsc_6682

I’d heard so many good things about this foundation, so I thought I would put it to the test. Here are my first impressions.

dsc_6795

This picture was taking right after I’d applied the foundation. I applied my go-to primer (Wet n Wild Coverall primer) to my skin first, because I wouldn’t wear foundation without priming my skin first. I’m wearing the lightest shade that’s available in Denmark (as far as I know) which is the shade 05 Light Beige. It has a pretty strong pink undertone, which I usually don’t go for in foundations, but the shade seemed to match me pretty well when I applied it. It applied it with a sponge which was really easy. The coverage and finish of this foundation are great, and overall it looked really good. Sadly, the foundation oxidised quite bit, which made the pink undertones stand out even more.

dsc_6814

I wore the foundation for 8 hours, and the picture above was taking right before I removed the foundation. I don’t think it looks too bad in these pictures, but in real life it had very clearly oxidised, so obviously the colour was off. Besides that, I was very impressed by the staying power, and considered the fact that I didn’t set the foundation with powder, my skin wasn’t that oily after 8 hours of wear (I was only a little oily on and around my nose). There was minimal creasing as well. Apart from the oxidation, the only other thing I didn’t like about this foundation was that it was very difficult to remove. I used micellar cleasing water which I always use to remove my make-up, and I had to use twice as many cotton rounds than usual to remove this foundation. Those are my only two cons, and even though I could live with the fact that it’s difficult to remove, I won’t wear a foundation that oxidises as much as this one does. If I at some point could get my hands on a lighter shade, I might give it another go.

Think pink

dsc_6820dsc_6819

Here’s the make-up I wore with this outfit. I used The Douce palette by Juvia’s Place for the time, and the eye look turned out much softer than I’d imagined. I thought the matte peachy pink shade called Créme would be more pigmented, but anyways the look still turned out very pretty.

(Base: primer – Wet n Wild CoverAll primer, foundation – Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation (shade: 110 Porcelain), concealers – MAC Pro Longwear concealer (shade: NC20) + Maybelline Fit Me concealer (shade: 05), powders – e.l.f. HD Undereye setting powder in Sheer + Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless pressed powder (shade: 90 Translucent). Face make-up: contour/bronzer – Physicians Formula Butter bronzer (shade: Light), blusher – MAC Sugar or Syrup powder blush, highlighter – MUA Undress Your Skin shimmer highlighter in Pink Shimmer. Eye make-up: base – MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly, eye shadows – Jeffree Star Beauty Killer eye shadow palette (shade: China White) + Juvia’s Place The Douce palette (shades: Berry Mousse + Créme + Puffs + Tart), mascara – Maybelline The Falsies Volum’ Express, eyeliner – Sephora Long lasting kohl pencil in 07 Infinite beige. Eyebrows – e.l.f. Clear Brow & Lash Mascara. Lips: Jeffree Star Velour liquid lipstick in Romeo)

BeautyBay sale haul

dsc_6731

In the beginning of January, BeautyBay had a sale, so I purchased a few things; mainly eyeshadows and a single highlighter.

dsc_6758

I purchased two Juvia’s Place eyeshadow palettes, the first one being The Magic Mini palette. It’s the same as The Magic palette, the eyeshadow pans are just smaller, which I don’t mind at all. I haven’t played with this palette yet, but look how gorgeous the colours are! I’ve had The Saharan palette by Juvia’s Place for a while, and it’s so good, so I expect this palette to be just as good.

dsc_6750

I also picked up The Douce palette by Juvia’s Place. This one I have used once, and I have to say that I was a little disappointed in the pigmentation of the matte peachy pink shade called Créme, but the other shades I tried were very nice though.

dsc_6744

I’ve been wanting to try out the newer formulated eyeshadows from Wet n Wild for a while, so I purchased the Rosé in the Air palette. I’ve used this one twice so far, and I’m impressed! The pigmentation is great and they blend out very nicely. This is going to be the perfect travelling palette if I’m going away for a weekend or a few days in general.

dsc_6734

I absolutely love the Stila Magnificant Metals Glitter & Glow liquid eyeshadows, but they are quite expensive, so I only want to buy them on sale. Lucky for me, they were in the BeautyBay sale, so I purchased the shades Diamond Dust and Rose Gold Retro, and they are so pretty!

dsc_6740

The highlighter, I bought, is the Milani Strobe Light Instant Glow Powder in the shade Afterglow. I just thought it looked really pretty, and it is. I’m loving it so far.

Grey lips

dsc_6759dsc_6760

Here’s the make-up I wore with this outfit. I hadn’t worn a grey lipstick in absolute ages, and I had almost forgotten how much I like it.

(Base: primers – Wet n Wild CoverAll primer + MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance Illuminating Base (shade: Radiant Yellow), foundation – Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation (shade: 110 Porcelain), concealers – MAC Pro Longwear concealer (shade: NC20) + Maybelline Instant Anti Age Eraser concealer (shade: 00 Ivory), powders – e.l.f. HD Undereye setting powder in Sheer + Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless pressed powder (shade: 90 Translucent). Face make-up: contour/bronzer – Physicians Formula Butter bronzer (shade: Light), blusher – Essence Satin Touch blush in 20 Satin Love, highlighter – Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle highlighter duo (shade: Lightning Dust). Eye make-up: base – MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly, eye shadows – Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eye Shadow Collection (shade: White Chocolate) + Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palette (shades: Silk Creme + Pukey + Enlight), mascara – Maybelline The Falsies Volum’ Express, eyeliner – Sephora Long lasting kohl pencil in 07 Infinite beige. Eyebrows – e.l.f. Clear Brow & Lash Mascara. Lips: MAC Stone lip pencil + MAC Gwendolyn lipstick)

Grey and brown

dsc_6771dsc_6770redi

Here’s what I wore Tuesday January 15. As much as I love bright, colourful outfits, I also like to play around with neutral colours every now and again, and I think this blazer, roll neck, corduroy combo turned out pretty good.

(Trousers – H&M, blazer + roll neck top – second hand, belt – Asos, boots – Monki)
